This personal piece is based on my original concept of an alternative Victorian-era paranormal hunting device. For the main render, I wanted to tell a story — time constraints meant some of the background assets were modeled and some were Substance models, I was intentional about the composition of the shot and how the assets contribute to the overall scene narrative. The bulk of my time was spent modeling and texturing the hero prop, the Ethereal Resonator, before shifting focus to the storytelling elements that bring the world around it to life. I wanted the textures to feel a little painterly while still holding surface detail so, I used this technique in painter I've been experimenting with for a while using the slope blur filter.
